Valentine’s Day, Mother’s and Father’s Day champion a limited form of love (based on a unique person). Alternative Valentine’s Day explores the meaning of relationship, raises the possibility of true friendship, culminating in the Visionary friendship pledge.
Let’s find the core of the existing holidays: nurturing each other, helping each other, learning about each other. Don’t stop short by thinking only about those with whom you are closest to. Stand up for something bigger and greater!
The event is composed of several parts. Meetings to explore the meaning of love, compassion, forgiveness and non-violence. An evening Celebration of the Good, to read aloud beautiful works about relationship in an informal setting. And Public action, to publicize this alternative ‘holiday’ in public spaces.
This ‘holiday’ could be an appropriate counterbalance to the standard relationhip holidays, including sex education and the injunctions of religions.
