How to facilitate any quest or topic.

Visionary Society is a way to find the heart of any topic, to challenge each other to be more than we are. It is reconceiving the basic categories by which we judge our lives. It’s a climate of exploration, soulfulness and possibility.

How does one become a Visionary citizen? It's awfully simple, in a sense. All that we need is to want that world. Not occassionally or half-heartedly, but contantly and thoroughly. Not just intellectually, but with heart and soul. What does that mean? It means staking our life on the existence of a transcendent reality.
What does that mean? Don’t waste this one life that you have. Be discontented. Be unreasonable. Take risks for the sake of your soul. Make a firm promise to become capable of the good, the true, the beautiful, and to do so in your actual life: work, celebration, relationship, citizenship. Stake your entire being on it. And don’t forget to celebrate that you are on a path that truly matters.
Dedication to the real is defeat of the bland state of the public mind. It is a new social contract, reassigning our allegiance, writing the constitution with our life, generating and establishing Visionary society.
What is Visionary society?
Visionary society is a way of satisfying our thirst to live in the society we envision. It means undertaking a deeper way of life in each part of our life, including relationship, money, culture, government. It’s a place to challenge each other to be more than we are.

Are we sheep?
I wonder, are we sheep or people? Sheep are four-legged ungulates. People are two-legged ambulates, strangulates. Our dreams are awfully small. A nice place to live and a car, a family, a vacation. Dressing up, climbing the ladder. Small talk and pleasantries. Is that all there is?
How to wake up
What is the first thing you say to yourself in the morning? As wakefulness arrives, fight the inertia. The inertia that convicts you of who you are, who you think you are: your appearance, your health, your age, your position, your possessions. Don’t underestimate yourself. What matters is this very day.
Spiritual jujitsu
Spiritual jujitsu is a kind of conceptual agility, like a gymnast doing a double twist and back flip at the same time. Spiritual jujitsu is a superlative creative act. It means that the question is wrong. It means that everything you thought you knew was false.

"What is the secret of existence? Wherefore and for whose sake do we live? Only those who have not tasted the terror of life, only those who claim that it is a pleasure to live and that more and only pleasure is in store for the generations to come, can deny the essential necessity of asking: Wherefore? For whose sake?”

Abraham Heschel, Man is Not Alone
