Overview
PROJECT G, as in G for Girls!! We are focused on bringing health education and sustainable menstrual solutions to girls in rural Cambodia. Without basic hygiene education and sanitation, rural girls often miss many days of school ultimately dropping out. Partnering with Days for Girls, we provide safe, beautiful, long-lasting washable menstrual Kits along with our important health education. Our Kits are sewn locally in our sewing workshop in Siem Reap providing employment to local women

Challenge

With only 13% of students graduating from high school in Cambodia, there is no figure that exists on what percentage of those are girls. But what we do know is that around the world, girls and women resort to using rags, banana leaves, feathers, and even cow dung to manage their menstruation. Without basic hygiene education and sanitation, rural girls often miss many days of school, ultimately dropping out and staying home to look after the house and other children in the family.

Solution

Project G provides safe, beautiful, long-lasting Days for Girls washable menstrual Kits to all high school girls who join our workshops. By teaching both girls and boys vital health education that has proven international quality and giving the girls FREE menstrual Kits, we can keep girls in school and not miss out on their important high school education. All our menstrual Kits are sewn in Siem Reap by women who are taught sewing skills and are empowered to become a pillar of their families.

Long-Term Impact

By keeping girls in school + empowering them to believe that they are strong, independent and valued members of their community, they will go on to be future leaders in Cambodia + will be breaking the poverty cycle through education. By empowering the Project G team to share their knowledge with girls in the countryside, we are personifying the power of education - bright students from poor rural families bringing the power of education back to their rural communities. Our 2020 goal is 5000 Kits
