This project focuses on the rearing and sale of indigenous chickens, along with their eggs and fertilizer derived from chicken waste. It began three years ago and involves raising chickens from chicks until they are ready for sale at four to six months old. I estimate that USD 150 will be needed for raising the chicks and USD 50 for maintenance and repairs of the chicken coop. Revenue will come from three main streams: selling eggs, selling chickens for meat, and producing and selling organic fertilizer.
Goals
The goal is to sustainably raise and sell indigenous chickens, eggs, and fertilizer in order to generate income and contribute to the local food system. I also aim to provide more employment opportunities for the community, particularly among youth. In the long term, I hope to introduce and promote the use of technology in indigenous poultry farming to improve efficiency and production quality.
Additional Support
Yes, I need additional support to reach these goals. Access to capital will help me purchase different indigenous breeds, allowing me to better meet market demands and adapt to local environmental conditions. I also need education and training in poultry farming, including best practices for chick rearing, adult chicken management, care for laying hens, and understanding chicken nutrition throughout their life stages.
