Overview

Profound Peace is resolving conflict at the root level, through introspection and direct, personal, collaborative action. Whether in our personal life, locally or globally, we can step out of the cycle of violence and establish meaningful, collaborative and peaceful relationships.

Profound Peace includes:
– Topics to learn about deep responses to conflict and specific conflicts.
– An annual public event for sharing deep responses to conflict, in public spaces and in the media.
– Requests to Prisons and Security Guards to start taking steps to change aggression into cooperation.
– Pledges that soldiers, police, judges and lawyers can take for basic humanity and helpfulness in their profession.
– The formation of a Peace Brigade for any conflict, in which participants take a pledge for deep understanding of opposing sides and, most of all, to create peace in themselves and their personal life.

Principles
Understand the grievances of the opposing side.
Understand the suffering of the opposing side.
Understand your own role in aggression.
Active collaboration with any and all peace organizations.

Profound Peace public events

Objective
1. Present events in a public or quasi-public space.
2. Engage the local media.
Details
Present events in a public or quasi-public space
Introduce people to the Profound Peace mission and tools. Provide examples, responding to specific conflicts, as well as something from the Deep Challenge. Design this to be fun and interactive, not just boring literature.

Engage the local media
Engage the local media in rethinking the standard approaches to conflict: instead of supporting the established view or criticizing this, demonstrate how it is possible to resolve conflicts at a deeper level.
Explain how Profound Peace works, and discuss a current conflict from the point of view of Profound Peace. Develop a series of questions that journalists can use to understand conflicts.
Do this especially at the time of the event, but also on an ongoing basis. Perhaps offer a weekly or monthly show on a local radio station (such as KBOO) to explore a current conflict from the point of view of Profound Peace.

Elements
Present our response to conflict in general and to a specific current crisis.
Criticize superficial responses to conflict, especially violent ones.
Provide basic content using our tools such as:
Understand the grievances of all sides.
Understand the suffering of all sides.
Find the good in the opposing side. Celebrate the opposing culture.

STEP
Form a Profound Peace Brigade for any conflict

Objective
Profound Peace Brigades are composed of 'stakeholders' in a conflict: civilians and soldiers on any and all sides. The goal is to establish genuine communication, and to act at the root level of a conflict. Participants accept the Deep Profound Peace Challenge: Become capable of peace, and put an end to war in yourself.
Details
We must replace the function of the United Nations and the military by creating a living network of real relationships between those on opposing sides of geopolitical struggles.

The Profound Peace Brigade includes tools and resources for the following:
– Understand the grievances of all sides.
– Understand the suffering of all sides.
– Discover who is engaging in aggression.
– Seek the good in the opposing side.

The Deep Profound Peace Challenge involves becoming capable of peace: putting an end to war in yourself, and using humble love:
– Question your need for power, position, prestige, money
– Repent for your own brutality.
– Repent for your own complicity.
– Lead your daily life peacefully.
– Daily minute of silence.

Profound Peace Brigade envisions solutions that are impossible now but could be possible with entirely different psychologies. It is a beacon for a parallel response to what otherwise is an intractable, impossible dilemma.

Step Task: The first few participants of the Profound Peace Brigade will have to help think about and plan details on how it will work, esp. in coordinating relationships with other Brigades in the same conflict.
